I can’t recommend Amy highly enough. She is the wise, knowledgeable presence in the room who has seen this all before and who knows what to do, say – and what not to do and say – to help you reach your birth goal.
As a first time mom, I was of course scared about birth. Amy was an amazing resource before the birth and during. I had so many questions, and she was able to provide me with just the right amount of information I needed to go into my birth in the most empowered way possible.
I very much wanted to have an unmedicated birth, but I knew from several of my friends’ experiences that that might not be possible. In addition, I wanted a hospital birth in case things did not go according to plan. Amy was amazing in supporting my partner and me in all of those wishes.
Before the birth, Amy was incredibly responsive when my spouse or I had a concern. At one point I was concerned that the baby was rotating out of the optimal vertex position, and Amy answered her cell on the weekend to talk me through some of the positions I could try to get her back in position – and it worked!
During the birth, Amy was adaptive, sensitive, incredibly aware, confident, and had a light touch with me, which was important as I ended up wanting the space to focus on one of the hardest things I had ever done in my life. Giving birth is an incredibly intimate experience, and I was incredibly grateful that Amy was part of that experience, especially in a hospital setting with lots of strangers coming in and out. One of the most challenging parts of the birth was when my baby’s head was inching out and then inching back. This part of pushing seemed to last forever, but one of the most incredible and encouraging moments was when Amy leaned over and whispered, “her head isn’t coming back anymore, she’s staying out.” That was just the encouragement I needed to know that I could in fact do the rest.
I can’t recommend Amy highly enough. She is the wise, knowledgeable presence in the room who has seen this all before and who knows what to do, say – and what not to do and say – to help you reach your birth goal. The amazing thing is, if I had wanted less space during labor, as many of my friends did, Amy would have responded to that need with her arsenal of skills with the robozo, light-touch massage and others. I give her my highest recommendation!
