Have you ever had something really important you needed to do but neither the time nor the energy needed in order to complete the task? Laundry comes to mind for me…ahem, clean underwear and all. I don’t know about how your home operates, but it takes 5.3 seconds for our hampers to fill up (and there are just three of us!). Just as I have put all of the folded laundry that’s been hanging out on the couch away (I’ll spare you the length of time…), a new crop of laundry is looming. Is this sounding familiar to anyone? I can’t be the only one…
At any rate, the time and energy that I devote to laundry is…say it with me…EX-HAUST-ING! I would much rather be cozying up to my sweetheart and a big bowl of coconut popcorn to take in the latest episode of Shades of Blue than take one more look at “the pile” (don’t judge…we like JLo!).
The same stress could be applied to choosing a childbirth education class – what with all of the choices available (fabulous though they may be), length of classes offered in your area, cost associated with the class, how much you and your partner (if you have a partner) enjoy learning in a group, as well as the time commitment involved in the class (some of them last for 12 weeks).
Now, I am not denying the benefits of long-term childbirth prep classes – they’re a great place to build community and learn A LOT about birth. This type of class is a great fit for families who have gobs of extra time on their hands and want to know all the stuff. But, if you’re like most busy expecting parents I work with (owners of a couch disguised as a laundry heap, perhaps?), you have a limit to the amount of time you can invest in learning about even the most important event in your lives. And, you may be more interested in learning just the basics of birth. I would argue that more families fit into the latter category.
That’s what I love about the Your Birth Experience childbirth education system! In five short hours, I can provide you with a customized class (either private or group) that is tailored to your personality, learning needs, and birth vision. Maybe you don’t want to learn about the inner workings of the placenta and umbilical cord – it’s fascinating stuff, but learning the ins and outs of their functions won’t necessarily help you to achieve your birth goals. I can get as detailed or as broad with my favorite subject as you want me to, while still providing you with a wide range of tools to use on labor day.
I teach soon-to-be-parents how to create a crystal clear vision of the kind of birth they are seeking, the steps of writing a highly effective birth plan – including understanding the birthing options that are available to them, how to best prepare for a healthy birth by focusing on health during pregnancy, how to cope with the rigor of labor and birth, as well as breastfeeding basics needed in order to get off to a great start! Plus, a fabulous childbirth reference guide is included in the budget-friendly cost of your class! Also included in each class (whether you learned in a group or in the privacy of your own home) is a follow-up video chat session, during which I will review your birth plan and offer any suggestions for tightening it up a bit in order to most effectively communicate your birth wishes to your care providers.
This is where distance learning comes in! The best part about offering private classes is that I can teach you how to achieve your best birth whether I’m sitting down with you in your living room OR we’re talking to each other over the interwebs! Video chat helps me reach more families all over the world. You have the right to access high quality childbirth education, whether you can make it to one of my classes in the Sacramento, CA area or you need to meet with me via your computer (while still wearing your pajamas). My online learning clients get just as much fantastic content as the clients I meet with in person. You will receive a copy of the Your Birth Experience Parent Guide in the mail up to one week before our online class occurs – so you can familiarize yourself with the wealth of information included in the book. At our scheduled class time, simply login to your favorite video chat program (Skype or FaceTime), and we’ll get down to business!
So, what’s stopping you from signing up for a childbirth education class? Now that you know it doesn’t mean you have to spend hours on end dragging yourself to a class week after week, what are you waiting for? Visit my online shop to book a private online class today! Heck, you can fold laundry while I teach you how to prepare for the birth of your little one!
